The Chieftin Lab is a successful case of cooperation between the team led by Bill Roscoe, a famous professor of financial technology at the University of Oxford, and the Chinese team. The British team embarked on the road of development in Shenzhen, China. In collaboration with the Chieftin Lab, the British team matched British innovation in original technology with China’s demand and set a new pattern of achievement transformation by means of “offshore transfer” to respond to the needs of China’s financial technology.

Incorporated in December 2016, the Chieftin Lab is a private non-profit research institute aiming at fintech innovation, fintech R&D, talent cultivation and fintech industrialization. The Lab boasts a number of famous professors and doctors from first-class universities and institutions at home and abroad–like the University of Oxford, the University of Luxembourg, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Hunan University and Tehua Postdoctoral Programme. The R&D team consists of over 30 members, including one academician, ten specially-appointed professors and seven doctoral researchers. The Chieftin Lab specializes in the R&D of financial safety technology and blockchain technology, as well as financial artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies.

Bill Roscoe is the head of the Chieftin Lab, a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Academy of Europe, as well as a senior scientist at the University of Oxford, as witnessed by his 40-year service at the University. He held office as chairman of the Research Committee of Oxford Mathematics Department, chairman of Oxford Information Safety Committee and chairman of Computer Science Committee, etc. He is recognized as a leading scholar in the world in the key fields of information safety, computer system validation and parallel computing. He developed the communication sequential process (CSP) language and inspection tool FDR which are widely applied to key projects, such as the development of chips and planes, and various validations of security protocol. Professor Bill’s findings fall into the category of underlying technology in the fintech industry. In recent years his achievements of computing science have been turned to practical account, producing remarkable results. He himself is a recognized authority on the subject on a global scale. Bill is not only a prominent scientist, but also an expert in scientific research management. Under his leadership, the Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, developed rapidly into a world-class research institute with over 30 full professors, 40 lecturers and over 250 researchers from a three-professor institute. Bill received the Queen’s Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the School of Science, University of Oxford.

China-Europe Fintech Innovation Lab. (hereinafter referred to as the Chieftin Lab) is a non-profit research institute aiming at fintech innovation, talent cultivation and fintech industrialization. The Lab. is a way of building bridges between China’s top researchers and European technology researchers.

Mainly consisting of senior researchers from the University of Oxford and Peking University, the research team specializes in the R&D of blockchain technology, identity recognition and certification technology, safety payment technology, financial AI (artificial intelligence) and big data technology. Based on the booming financial technology in the Pearl River Delta, the Lab will go full steam ahead to deploy various resources at home and abroad and meet the needs of local development.

Since its incorporation in 2016, the Chieftin Lab has established cooperative relations with the Shenzhen Institute of Building Research, Shenzhen Aoto Electronics Co., Ltd. and China Mobile Guangdong Zhuhai Branch.

Established in June 2018, the Corerain Research Institute is a private non-profit institute specializing in technical R&D and industry incubation of independent chips AI development platform and AI applications based on independent chip architecture.

World-renowned doctoral teams consisting of overseas returnees form the backbone of the Corerain Research Institute, like Wayne Luk, a professor and fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as those graduated from famous universities like the Imperial College London. The ideal to be aimed at is to set up academic research teams, attract AI top talent from home and abroad and dedicate themselves to the research into cutting-edge AI technologies and theories. The Corerain Research Institute set up the International Academic Committee, an academic body of strategic consultancy and evaluation.
